YouTube informed its subscriber by e-mail of the Premium Price Increase Plan, which was the first price increase for YouTube since 2023. The adjusted prices will be immediately effective for new subscribers, who will see updated prices in June.

The monthly fee for individual subscriptions will increase by $2 to $15.99, while the Music and Premium Lite plans to increase by $1 to $11.99 and $8.99, respectively. The monthly cost of the home subscription scheme increased slightly, by $4, to a total of $26.99. According to an e-mail shared earlier today on Reddit, YouTube states: “In order to continue to provide quality services and functions, we raise your price to $20.99 per month. We will not take these decisions easily, but this update will enable us to continue to improve Premium and to support artists and creators on YouTube.”

YouTube further explained the increase in prices in a statement to the Hollywood Report. According to the company, this was the first price adjustment in the United States in three years, aimed at “continuing the high-quality experience of supporting creators and artists”. The statement further states: “This change allows us to maintain the most important functions of the membership: free from advertising, backstage play and the huge music library of over 300 million songs on YouTube. We continue to offer a variety of options to ensure that subscribers can choose the most appropriate options for themselves.”

YouTube Premium provides a number of services to its members, including no-advertising experience, downloading off-line viewing of videos and back-office broadcasting. Recent new features include jump tools, high-sound audio, faster video play and Shorts’ painting mode. The Music level is for users who primarily use the platform to listen to songs and blogs, while the Premium Lite level provides a similar but limited version of the base at lower prices.
