The Spopely Network announced that the company had formally completed its acquisition of the Niantic game sector on 29 May 2025, with a total value of $3.5 billion. The acquisition included several well-known games and community applications under Niantic ‘ s Spopely portfolio, including Pokémon GO, Pickmin Bloom and Monster Hunter Now.

In addition, Spopely will acquire complementary applications and services, Campfire and Wayfarer, to enrich its diverse video game product mix. According to two companies, this has highlighted a sustained commitment to community-driven social experiences. This deal not only enriches the Scopely mobile game, but also brings Niantic ‘ s entire game development team, further consolidating its leading position in the global mobile game market.
Niantic Game Businesses (MAU) have over 30 million active players per month and collected over $1 billion in 2024. Niantic ‘ s Pokémon Go continues to be a global shock, ranking among the top 10 mobile games every year since its launch almost 10 years ago, with over 100 million independent players by 2024.
The combined product mix of the two companies will create one of the largest players in the world, with more than 500 million players in 2024 alone. In Spopely, the Niantic team will continue to advance its ambitious development blueprint, led by Kei Kawai and Ed Wu, who have long served as game studio leaders.

In a statement, Tim O’Brien, Chief Collector and Board Member of Spopely, stated: “Scopely has been committed to building meaningful communities through shared love, and Niantic is one of the world’s best play teams. We have been inspired by the achievements that the team has created over the past decade, providing an innovative experience that has attracted many faithful players around the globe and has allowed people out to experience the real world. We look forward to further stimulating team creativity through this collaboration.”
“There are few games in the world that have the same scale and lasting vitality as Pokémon Go, and last year alone more than 100 million players. After working with the Niantic team for some time, we quickly found that they share a vision with us, namely, to build industry-led results and an excellent player experience. We look forward to a better future, “Tim O’Brien adds.

“It is a great honour for us to serve hundreds of millions of trainers in the real community over the past decade, and I am convinced that the future will be better. Our mission has always been clear: to inspire people to explore in the real world a dream. With Spopely’s full commitment, experience and resources, we will turn Pokémon Go into the best platform — from a good battle between thousands of trainers in the field to a new way of reaching out to friends and communities. Above all, we will continue to focus on exploring the dreams and experiences in the real world.”
As one of the largest and fastest-growing companies in the field of mobile games, Spopely is known for its highly socialized experiences, which connect people and make life better through games. This acquisition shows that Spopely will continue to invest in games that are very popular with players and have a global deep-seated player community, and to work on the development of games.
