The launch of the new card expansion package “The Guide to the Sky and the Sea” in the Quaker TPG pocket was embarrassingly frustrated: the artworks of the legendary Zhuong X and Lochia EX were copied. The developers Creatures Inc. and DeNA are committed to removing and replacing copying material. As the game is updated today, the two cards have now been replaced with officially authorized new cartoons.
On 30 July, Sky and the Sea Guidelines were launched, and domestic illustrators discovered that their EX-card illustrations of Phoenix were highly similar to a similar one they had created in earlier years, thus triggering allegations of copying. The developer immediately issued an incident statement stating that “the card production team provided the painter who commissioned the cards with references that were wrongly marked as official documents”.
As a result of this problem, Boddunk TCG Pocket Edition was forced to remove the cards of Phoenix EX and Rochia EX and replace them with “New Art Coming Soon” in place, with a commitment to enhance quality control.
A second statement was issued jointly with Creatures on 31 July. It was clarified that the copying was the result of erroneous information provided by the card-making team, and that the illustrator was responsible for the mere commissioning of creations by Bogo Dream, without the intention of copying them, as a senior illustrator of the card. Players are therefore called upon to stop cyberattacks against illustrators and to respect their contributions.
Today, both BMZ cards have been replaced with new designs, and the previously drawn players should have acquired updated material. Interestingly, IGN found that the new replacement was still being created by the same painter, who was the author of the original Carto. With regard to the copying of the game material and the rapid processing of the results, the national illustrator said: “Thank the official for the quick processing and hopes that the matter will be closed”.
